Little Birdie Baby Shower

Hi there, sharing yet another party I did a few months back.  I saw this invitation and loved the idea of a momma bird nesting... This inspired me to use feathers as part of the decor since the shower was to help momma to be "Feather her Nest".  Most of the decor was made or crafted by me, even the flowers believe it or not, I arranged those too!
The cutest "A little birdie told me" invite.

Outdoor baby shower sign, hand painted.
Entry door linen banner hand painted by me.

I'm a TOTAL fan of DYI'ing!  I personalized these signs by carrying over the design from the invitation and included wording to fit with the theme.  I had seen another party (which I don't recall where at this time) that used the Tweet, Tweet phrases and I just loved it!  It was so fitting with this theme.  You'll see that I used it in a lot my signage.  I created both signs in Powerpoint and used a projector to trace the images onto the poster board and linen.  I added streamers to each side of the poster board to call attention to the sign since it would be placed outdoors.

The door banner took the longest because I started off using Sharpie markers, only to find out the color would run on the fabric.  I didn't make time to go find fabric markers, so I ended up using acrylic paint and a brush on the whole thing.  It was pretty time consuming but sooo worth it.  It was the first thing people saw as they walked into the shower.

Does this birdie cage look familiar?!?  I was super excited to use this again!

I hope you enjoyed!  This particular party consumed so much of time...  I created almost all elements of the shower decor.  It was so nice to see it all come together and the most rewarding was to see that momma to be was really happy with what I pulled together!!

Surprise 60th Birthday Fiesta

Planning this event was Extra-Super-Special as it was for my mom's 60th Birthday.  From the moment I started thinking of planning her party I knew I wanted a fiesta theme, but not the typical fiesta theme with Mexican sombreros and cactus tree confetti and decor.  I envisioned a classy Fiesta that would still include some traditional party decor.  Like Mexican crepe paper flowers or maybe even some papel picado.

With some of the elements in mind I began my planning journey.  I searched and searched for an invite and when I saw it, I knew it was the One.  That's all it took for all the ideas to flow and for me to pull all the details together - from decor, cake, to the customized menu with a Mexican flare.  I can say so much, but this sums it up:  Rustic, burlap with a muted blue and pop of orange...  Enjoy!

This is what got my fiesta planning juices flowing.  I saw this on a promo for Cocodot and had to have it.  The BESTest part of it was that the design was baby blue which is the color I had in mind for this event - I knew it was the ONE at first sight!!
The design reminded me of papel picado.

Centerpieces were small pedestal candles, sorrounded by crepe paper flowers, laid on wooden trays.   All placed on burlap runners.
I made burlap napkin holders and added grosgrain ribbon to pull in the blue.
Feliz 60 burlap flags with a few pictures of the guest of honor.
This nifty lantern was a Cost Plus find.  Perfect to fill with sand and succulents for display table.
Cake by Jen's cakes, matched invitation design.

Birdcage card holder

Talk about things I heart --> This birdcage I found abandoned with a clearance sticker in a corner at a Home Goods Store.  Initially I didn't buy it because it was an avocado green color.  A week went by and I just couldn't get it out of my head...  I knew it would tie in well with the theme and thought "heck, I can just paint the darn thing and make it work".  So I did just that.  I bought it, brought it home and bought a can of baby blue spray paint.  The hubbs painted it for me.  It came out perfect!
Menu customized to fit with the theme.

Bridal Shower - Yellow and Black Hues

I've got the itch!  The blogging itch!!  So I'm finally catching up and adding past events I've enjoyed putting together.

This was for my best friend Liz's bridal shower in Spring 2010.  Her wedding color palette was yellow, black and white so we stuck with similar colors for her bridal shower.  Anemone's were a big inspiration for this project, though I wasn't able to get fresh blooms on the day of this event.  I learned that Anemone's are actually very delicate and you have to get them in the heart of their season to get beautiful blooms.  One day I'll get a bouquet full...  Nevertheless it all still flowed well together.

One of my 1st hand crafted banners

Hanging poms in yellow, black and grey hues

Centerpieces made with fresh lemons from my very own tree, white flowers with tiny black centers to tie w/ her palette

I love the simplicity of this cake in muted yellow. The black dotted border just pops!
